So maybe you find yourself in the dental chair, being
rested back for teeth polishing, and as you look up at the ceiling
you see...
Painted ceiling tiles, of course!
Years ago a wonderful, artistic young lady was referred
to us for dental care. She was deaf, had two young children, was
going through some hard times, and offered to paint ceiling tiles
in exchange for some dental work. She brought in a wooden frame
which Dr. McNerney cut to the same size as a ceiling tile. She would
then stretch canvas over the frame and paint a beautiful picture.
After the first couple of tiles were in place, the principal of
Hannah Beardsley Middle School, Mr. Ron Ludwig, noticed and asked
if some of his 6th grade art students could contribute to the show.
Dr. McNerney took some tiles out of his office ceiling, which were
then painted by the 6th graders, and a tradition was established.
Now the office has many ceiling tiles painted in a variety of styles
and media, by patients ranging in age from six to fifty-six! The
delightful lady who started the tradition earned a masters degree
along the way, is now attaining her doctorate, and received a cochlear
implant allowing her to hear again! Even though she is now too busy
to paint more tiles, many of our patients have picked up where she
left off. Every painted tile has a story, and all the stories come
from our community. And now you have something nice to see when
you're being rested back in that comfy dental chair!
Throughout this site, many of our ceiling tiles appear
in the four boxes near the top of the page. Click any of them to
