A crown is a porcelain prosthetic placed over an existing tooth to create a smoother, cleaner look. Crown technology has improved over the years, and older, less lifelike crowns can be replaced with new ones. A bridge is a grouping of interconnected crowns.



Crowns can also serve to cover space in the tooth line as illustrated below.
